pharmacy continuing education contraceptive training for prescribing pharmacists

Dear Kaiser Permanente Pharmacist,

As you know, we have exciting opportunities for pharmacists to prescribe in in Oregon and Washington. Kaiser Permanente encourages and supports our pharmacists in their new role as providers.

Under Oregon Board of Pharmacy rules, a pharmacist must complete the board-approved training and certification program in order to prescribe oral contraceptives. Our organization has decided to require certification for licensed pharmacists practicing in our outpatient pharmacies throughout Oregon and Washington.

Licensed pharmacists can use their available continuing education day (up to eight hours) to complete the five-hour self-study course.  We are receiving a $50 discount for pharmacists who register using the partner code listed below.  The discounted $200 course fee qualifies for the tuition reimbursement program. Licensed pharmacists may also elect to complete the training by using their four hours of self-study continuing education and tuition reimbursement.

Reminder - Registration of CE Credits

A quick reminder about registration of credits from this and other OSU College of Pharmacy online continuing education activities:

  1. To receive Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) credit for this course, you are required to set up a National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) CPE Monitor account and obtain an e-profile ID number. Click here to create an account, check your ID number or log in to CPE Monitor. NABP manages NABPLEX  and serves as the certifying agency that verifies pharmacists' identities and CPE credits.  Information is shared with the state boards of pharmacy regarding state licensure.
  2. When you complete the course, OSU College of Pharmacy will upload ACPE credit to your CPE Monitor profile: five credit hours for the Oregon course or four credit hours for the Washington course. Additionally, the appropriate state Board of Pharmacy will be notified of your completion of this program.
  3. Because insurance payers will verify your certification to prescribe in Oregon, and associate it with your NPI provider number, please enter your number in the registration for the course.
  4. Finally, please print the Certificate of Completion for your personnel records.

The Pharmacy department hopes to roll out this service to our members later this fall. It will take all of our best thinking and efforts to take this momentous step forward together.

Our profession and our patients are counting on us to continue to deliver the high quality, safe, and affordable care and are recognizing us as a valued member of the healthcare team.
