With a growing demand for online education, Oregon State University's eLearning Instructional Design and Development Certificate is designed to equip participants with the skills to enter - or advance in - the field of instructional design.
Developed by Oregon State University's College of Education, this comprehensive program provides you with broad exposure to principles and applications of eLearning. If offers research and practice-based insight into:
- Developing effective eLearning courses
- Using instructional technology to develop curriculum that motivates and engages the learner
- Applying instructional design theories or models and builds technical skills that apply to a variety of elearning settings
Participants will learn how to use and appropriate application of various elearning tools including authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate or Articulate, Web 2.0 resources, LMS, discussion boards, simulations, etc. You'll learn proven strategies for designing online instruction in areas to match today’s varied educational and business needs.

Covie Quick is a seasoned educator with 31 years of collective experience. She has trained colleagues, and taught both in online environments and in secondary science. She possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Science Education from Oregon State University, and an Educational Master’s degree in Information Science and Learning Technology, with a concentration in online education from the University of Missouri. She has published curriculum for the pulp and paper industry and created websites about the Geologic Wonders of Oregon, a Space Colony Adventure and student trips to Washington DC. Using Web 2.0 technology, she recently designed, developed and tested many online lessons that included several web quests for 7-12th grade students in Earth Science and Astronomy. She enjoys sharing and teaching successful educational strategies implored in creating engaging and effective eLearning.
Dr. Hsinyi (Sindy) Peng is an experienced researcher and an instructor in developing and analyzing E-learning processes and outcomes, especially in high schools and pre-service/in-service teacher training. She received her Ph.D. degree in Information Science and Learning Technologies from the University of Missouri. She served as an assistant professor at the Institute of Education/Center for Teacher Education of National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan (2004-2007) before her re-location to the United States. As an instructional designer, she is currently involved in the online curriculum design, development, and evaluation of the “Internet Safety” Program and the “Research Ethics” Program for college-level learners. Her works have been published in peer reviewed journals such as Computers & Education, Computers in Human Behaviors, Educational Studies, Innovations in Education and Teaching International, Journal of Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia, Educational Technology and Society, and Journal of Technology and Teacher Education.
Josh Bancroft is a lifelong geek who taught himself to type in computer programs to play games when he was 5 years old, and has been fascinated by the intersection of learning and technology ever since. Josh has a Masters degreee in Adult Education and Organizational Development from Oregon State University, and works on software education and community initiatives in the Developer Relations group at Intel. Josh is an experimentalist who likes to try new tools and technologies, and has had great success at using digital tools like blogs, wikis, podcasting, and social media to increase collaboration, build community, and encourage learning. Josh's learning and teaching philosophy centers on the idea of constructionism - that we create our own learning by "tinkering", making new things (physical or digital), then sharing them with others.
Sunddip Aguilar has been in the field of education for over 15+ years. She has taught students in a variety of educational settings, including on-ground and online in K to 12, Masters and doctoral learning environments. Sunddip is also a published author and trains teachers in various areas of teacher training. You can check this out at www.sunddip.com . Currently, Sunddip is developing various courses online in different learning management systems and her favorite digital tools are using blogs and social media to help students continue to be successful in their learning goals.
Her educational background includes a Bachelors in Biology and Education from Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia, Canada. She then went on to obtain her Masters in Education in Curriculum and Instruction and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix, AZ.

What types of hardware of software will I need for this course?
It is recommended that you have a good word processing program, PowerPoint, media players such as Adobe PDF reader and Adobe Flash, and a drawing program which may already be included with your word processing program. When you begin the course, there will be a few links for free programs you will be able to use if you would like. For the Exploring eLearning Tools course in the certificate in the spring, there may be other software and/or app requirements that the instructors will communicate at that time.
